Fortaleza Añejo - Superb!!

Fortaleza Añejo - Superb!!

Fortaleza Anejo- (lot 25). At about $70-80, this small batch traditionally made tequila is fantastic. Fortaleza is from El Valle (lowlands) in the town of Tequila- NOM- 1493. Guillermo Erickson Sauza makes the finest old world tequila that there is. Absolutely Amazing Juice. Very Nice and not overbearing, it's aged 18 months and is a nice, complex and tasty, bold anejo, without being too heavy or overly sweet. I always get a bit of parmesan cheese with all Fortalezas, and this was no different. Wonderful aromatics of slight mint, anise and brine, along with a light oaky and bourbon/whiskey aroma. It has the amazing fortaleza taste, a nice buttery feel, light caramel and butterscotch notes, with citrus and some spice. There is a hint of fruit, and only a pinch of vanilla, which I like. It had some heat, with beautiful slow dripping legs, and a medium or more nice oily feel. This Anejo is a bit light for an anejo, but tasty and bold enough, without being too heavy or overly sweet. Possibly a slightly higher alcohol level here, would be just perfect here.

PRODUCTION- Brick horno cooked, 100% tahona crushed, small wood vat fermentation and copper distillation stills. It's aged in American oak barrels for 18 months... END OF STORY.

NOSE- some mint, anise and brine, along with a light oaky and bourbon/whiskey and a parmesan cheese aroma as well.

TASTE- nice medium oils and a buttery mouthfeel, light caramel and butterscotch notes, with citrus, a touch of fruit, and some vanilla with some spice.

FINISH- a long delicious buttery and butterscotch exit.

I Love this Anejo, maybe not as much as the Reposado which may be the jewel in the Fortaleza family, but I will be buying more of this for sure. Fortaleza Anejo will always be among My Top Anejos, and if you don't mind spending $70-90 I think you'll agree that even for the price, it's absolutely delicious. You can taste the agave here, and it doesn't have an overpowering amount of oak, vanilla, and extra heat from the barrel aging as some anejos do. What else is there to say!! Great juice from Guillermo Erickson Sauza and his distillery-Tequila Los Abuelos. GREAT STUFF!!
